Wonderful cookbook!

by W. Gross from Portland, OR United States on 2008-03-24
We received this cookbook as a gift, and I have have enjoyed reading the stories behind the cakes and the visual presentation of each cake is fabulous. And then we made the Comforts Coconut Cake with lemon curd filling. It might be the best cake I have ever eaten, and mine looked as beautiful as the picture in the book. I brought it for a family dinner and got rave reviews. And it really was easy to make!

Beautiful

I can't wait to try out the recipes in this book. The pictures are beautiful and I like reading the stories. It's a very cute idea and would make a great present.

Home-cooking Forever

by B. Aiken from Alaska on 2007-06-14
I LOVE this book and quite honestly I find the rather bland reviews perplexing. I tried the angel food cake recipe and it is by far the best I have ever made; tall, light and perfect. The Comfort's Coconut Cake is to die for and the Buttermilk Poppyseed bundt cake turned out great as well. I made a few others and not one got ho-hum from anyone. Seriously, I think the coconut cake alone justifies the purchase of this book and my girlfriend for whom I made this cake on her birthday agrees, two enthusiastic thumbs up!The other thing I really liked about this book is the great photos and the stories behind the cakes. It is our family tradition for me to bake a homemade, from scratch cake for everyone's birthday and my children thoroughly enjoyed thumbing through this book and saying "This is the cake I want for MY birthday!" What delight it elicited from each one to see the creation they picked sitting before them on their special day.I haven't tried the more complicated Princess cake but both my girls have tagged it as their choice for their sixteenth birthday. So what if it's complicated or time consuming, they only get one sixteenth birthday in their entire lives. Let's go out of our way to celebrate the life that is uniquely theirs. If you really are unsure about buying it, order it from your library and try it out. Then you can buy it with the confidence of experience. But don't miss this great resource for making memorable birthday cakes.

Fantastic Book!!

by DCCorpMom from Washington, DC. on 2007-02-25
I almost didn't buy this book because of some of the lukewarm reviews, but I'm glad I did! This is a wonderful book with numerous recipes that are easy to make and delightful. The "1-2-3 cake" is one my children love to make. All the recipes are clear and should be easy enough for anyone who knows anything about baking. The decoration ideas have really helped me take my creations up a notch. I promise you'll enjoy this book from the beautiful pictures right down to the delicious finished products!

Let's Not All Be Hogs

by T. Coleman from Texas on 2009-08-22
Come on, we're all in this together. Share. I see this box and several other items in the Ya-Hoo line have sold out and we're awaiting more; and that's fine. However, where are the reviews? Is everybody trying to keep these exquisite cakes to themselves? Hey, I'm waiting in line and reviewing while I wait.Anyway, to review, let me simply say these are too good to leave alone once you open a can. Maybe better to serve to guests and thus remove the leftover temptation?I think my favorite is the Danish cream cheese pound cake, followed by the chocolate chip pound cake. I don't know.... maybe it's the nuts in the other two. Still terribly good, though. We can't really go much into this because it's just a matter of personal taste. This variety pack (or the six-can version) makes a good way to try them. I'll be going back for a full order of the cream cheese pound cake, though. These are moist, heavy (like pound cake should be) and great to have around for an easy sweet snack or a very pleasant surprise for your guests.

Less Filling More Fat

by M. Borg from San Francisco, CA on 2009-10-12
I purchased all three seasons of this show for my daughter who is a fan. Each season is a three disk set but what I didn't know is each season only includes six shows totaling only two and a half hours of programming!! No need to waste money on expensive packaging when you could put them all on one disk. But then they couldn't charge the high price they do. Good quality video but not enough value for the price! Not enough cake for me!!

Great Recipes

by K from Chicago IL USA on 2010-04-13
The recipes are great in this book. I have looked at lots of cake books and cake recipes and these seemed to be the best. This book gives you a great verity of cakes, icings, and even fillings. Some of the recipes are very unique. This book also provide interesting ideas for decorating that are attractive and also are not overly complicated. Perfect for a person who want a great looking cake but doesn't want to spend half the day decorating it.

can't decide 3 or 4 stars. Its good but....

by glouise from Upstate New York United States on 2009-04-10
I keep going back and forth between 3 and 4 stars. Great information in the beginning of the book. Ms. Wilson tries to cover a lot of ground, answers many questions and wants to share her knowlegde which is great. She even goes into freezing which is nice. I may not make a cake ahead and intentionally freeze it but I have made extra of the componets "just in case" as I have been known to be clumsy. It is nice to have guide lines on how to save them. Really like the selection of cake and frosting/filling recipes. My issue is lack of pictures and decorating ideas. In her past books, each cake has a picture and each cake is differnet in its decorating style. Along with great cakes, you were inspired creatively which doesn't really happen here. So I guess if you are looking for some good recipes (all of her recipes I have tried in this and past books have been outstanding)this is the book for you. If you are looking for new ideas on how to visually present a birthday cake to make it "more" look elsewhere.
