nordic pirate cake pan detail

The Nordic pirate ship pan was great in that it popped out of the pan perfectly with all detail in place. However, frosting is thick and there is no way you can get the detail of cannons, the planking on the exterior, the steering wheel, etc...they just get buried under frosting, Someone would have to devise a spray frosting for this purpose. I used a McCormicks red velvet cake recipie and it filled the pan 3/4 full to allow for rising-which was perfect. In this pan, the cake baked for an hour until it was done. The pan makes a perfect slicing cake of large pound cake like slices. For decorating, since you could not get the detail, I frosted that top then used colored frosting to draw cannons with candy dot ends and used a plastic pirate figurine holding a steering wheel, and gently inserted Hershey bar pieces for floor planks, etc. The ship came out great and I love the even baking quality, easy release and easy cleanup of the pan.

This pan works really well (grease and flour well despite the non-stick coating). There are a lot of details, but be prepared to do a lot of decorating to highlight the details because they are hard to see when the cake is all one color.

A great base

Although some of the little details are hard to see, most of them are great. All of the different levels on the top allow for a lot of different options to decorate the cake, from a simple glaze to lots of candy and frosting accents with different items in different places. The cake also came out very evenly baked and didn't stick at all after I sprayed it with baking spray.

it's ok

The detail is all but impossible to bring out if you use any kind of icing at all. i ended up using chocolate ganache to cover, and then i added marzipan planks and decking. turned out pretty well, considering. i did like that nothing stuck inside the cakepan, despite the detail. pan's a little heavy

Loved this pan. It was so easy to use (used the floured Pam) and made a big hit once decorated (a little or a lot). A hit with the adults as well as the children.

Total misrepresentation

The photos on this site show a pirate ship on a cake. That is totally not the case. I cannot believe I spent $25 for decorations that go on TOP of a prirate ship shaped cake. My grandson's birthday cake was a total disaster because of this. Nowhere on this site does it tell you that you have to have a pirated-shaped cake. The pictures show a cake with a pirate ship on top of it. This is completely misrepresnted and I would NEVER buy anything else from this vendor. After the purchase was completed, I received an email from Amazon telling me to contact this vendor for further instructions. I did so and NEVER recieved a reply from them. They had my money and that was all they wanted. These people are total crooks. And I will not buy anything else from Amazon until they do something about these people.

Great kit

This is a great kit. I did not realize when I purchased this that the ship is made of all cake,the only part of the ship that is plastic is the top. The body is all cake. This cake was a huge hit at my son's pirate party but be warned it is a time consuming task. It took my mother in law and myself to complete it.The kids loved it though!

FANTASTIC cake!!!

This is a fantastic kit...if you follow the directions, you will never buy a cake from a store again! The parts are pretty sturdy, and the little pirates are so cute! Also, the mast goes all the way to the bottom of the cake, so all the rails and 'rope' are anchored pretty well. I'd definitely recommend this product, and others from this company, for consumption as an alternative to store bought cakes...plus, you have the pleasure of baking for your loved ones and taking all the credit!
