My son wore this on his first birthday and for weeks after :)! It is made of good solid, soft material. I love this hat! The inside of the hat has an elastic band that keeps the hat in place. The elastic band is not tight at all ~ very forgiving! Too cute!

I bought this for my son's first birthday. It looked super cute on him, but he didn't care for wearing it long....which I was bummed with. Usually he will wear any hat without a problem, but for some reason, this hat was not his favorite. I'd buy it again, just because it is so cute.

Fun Hat!

This hat is WAY cuter than even the picture shows! I purchased it (from another company) last year for my son's first birthday. To be honest, I didn't think he'd keep it on his head for more than a minute, but he loved it! It is super soft and very comfortable, so he wore it almost all day. The colors are great and made for some vivid birthday pictures as well as some lasting memories. It wasn't just a hit with my son but also all of the party guests. It definitely put lots of smiles on faces. :)I gave it only three stars for the educational category because really all you can do with it is point out the different colors or the number one. But, come on, this was not meant to be educational.In fact, my son spotted it on top of a closet recently, and asked me to take it down. He now plays with it all the time and wears it randomly while playing with his toys. It has survived icing and hours of play... still looking like new. I came back hoping for one made for a second birthday- unfortunatley, with no luck. If your child is turning one, I highly recommend scooping this one up! For us, this hat was worth every penny!

Too big!

I had to return it because is too big for my 1 year old son and keep to mention that i always bouth him one size larger in hats to fit him well, but this is really BIG for his head!

I bought this fun hat for my son's 1st birthday..It is so adorable and cute. We did not have his party yet, however, I got a lovely picture for him wearing the hat to print it on a giant banner and hang it in the party enterance. I would strongly recommend this hat for a first birthday party.

I purchased the M&D Birthday Party B'day Cake more than a year ago for my older granddaughter's 3rd birthday. She plays with it nearly every day. I'm now considering buying it for my younger granddaughter's 3rd birthday. This is great for the child who wants to have an imaginary birthday party on any day of the year.

Enduring toy that fosters imaginative play

My daughter is on the cusp of her fourth birthday. She received this set when she turned two. I have been surprised at how much she has enjoyed this and how much use she got out of it. It went largely ignored the first year or so she had it, then one day she got it out and has played with it nearly every day sense. My daughter loves to decorate the cake; serve pieces to me, my husband, and her friends; she even seems perfectly enamored with putting it all back together for storage! I have seen a lot of imaginative play from her with this toy. Of course she puts on little birthday parties with it, but she has also come up with some really innovative uses for the various pieces. I would say that based on my daughter's experience, 3-4 is the perfect age for this set. I have given it as a gift and will continue to give it in the future. It's just that fun and adorable!

Much loved toy

The Melissa and Doug birthday cake is played with every single day at my house. I have two girls, ages 2 and 4 and they love love love this toy. They enjoy constructing the cake together, putting it in the pretend oven; singing happy birthday to each other and then serving up the cake. I wish more toys were built like this one -- a toy that promotes imagination, creativity and cooperation. We also have the pizza and ice cream cones and all three are huge hits.

One of my children was given this as a birthday gift, and while the kids like it okay and do play with it some, I have a few issues with it. First, as others have mentioned, there is no lid to the box. Annoying! Secondly, the paint does come off the pieces! Of course, being "food", kiddos are going to put pieces in their mouths to pretend-eat it. (Even though I always tell them not to!) It is very obvious which pieces have been in kids' mouths, due to the paint chipping and wearing off. Even if it's lead-free, it's not a great thing to have happen! Third, there are just too many little pieces for this mom's preference and I end up finding them strewn all through the house. And finally, it's just odd to me that the two of the cake toppings are jelly beans and gumdrops. Overall, I do not like this toy and would not recommend it to others.

So, I saw rave reviews for this book, and got it, but when I actually came to use the Thomas recipe, it is no use whatsoever. She really needs to draw up a cutting plan because her descriptions do not add up.For example:It requires a 20x6cm cake. She says cut in half and slice in layers (presumably for filling?). Stack them - so with me, you have a cake that is 12 cm high. Now later on she says how the cake should be 14 cm high. Go figure. The more complex cutting instructions make even less sense, and the picture of the raw cake appears to have 5 layers in it.Now I'm not saying she's lied, but neither her written description nor the photos makes it almost possible to cut the cake correctly. A 3D diagram would have made it much easier. Its clearly a really hard project even without misleading instructions.W

If you're looking for the most exquisitely decorated character cakes you've ever seen, this is the book. Debbie Brown's attention to detail is beyond measure and every cake in the book, quite frankly, is perfect. Here's what you should know:1. The book is mostly characters first made popular in the UK. If you're looking for U.S. characters, this is probably not the book for you (Thomas, of course, is in the book). There's "Budgy" and "Pat the Milkman," and a host of other characters I'd never heard of. I did recognize "Paddington," and "Smurfs" and "Popeye," however.2. 100% of the book's recipes call for fondant and gum paste. If these are media in which you do not like to work, then don't buy the book.3. Don't buy the book for the recipes. The only recipes she gives are for the vanilla cake that is the base for all the cakes she makes, and for a sugar/butter buttercream that you can get off of any box. These cakes are not designed to taste like heaven; they are designed to look like heaven.My son (who is 4) gets more use out of the book than I do. He loves looking at the pictures and making up stories about the characters. If you want to see absolutely perfect work in gum paste and fondant, buy the book. If you are particularly adept at working with these media, you'll love her instructions and her images.

Amazing characters!!

Debbie Brown is an incredible artist and her work in this book is incredible. She has good recipes and explanations in her book. I highly recommend this to the adventurous decorator. I also recommend her other book "Loveable Character Cakes".
